Cayetano: ‘Give Marcos Jr. a chance but don’t follow blindly’

Returning Senator-elect Alan Peter Cayetano on Wednesday urged the public to give President-in-waiting Bongbong Marcos the chance to prove himself.

“Give him a chance, see what he does, and then let’s judge it later on,” said Cayetano, who was one of Marcos’ critics during the vice presidential race in 2016.

“Kasi it’s easy to judge him and his family before this. Malinaw ‘yon,” Cayetano told reporters after his proclamation in Pasay City.

“Ang prinsipyo ko, kung sino pinili ng tao, bigyan mo ng chance. But do not follow blindly,” he said.

“Kung may mali, dapat alam nilang mali ang ginagawa. Kung may tama, then tulungan mo. O tama ang ginagawa, tulungan mo,” he added.

Cayetano maintained that he was not walking back his previous criticisms of Marcos.

“When you have certain principles, hindi naman nag-iiba iyon. Nag-retract ba ako?” he said.
