Canvassing of the votes for President and Vice President during a joint session of Congress next week may take only a couple of marathon sessions, according to Senate President Vicente Sotto III.
“If we start on 24th non stop, we can finish by the 26th,” the Senate leader told reporters.
But Sotto said the proclamation of presumptive President-elect Bongbong Marcos and Vice President-elect Sara Duterte might be done on the day after the last canvassing session.
“Not really, the practice or tradition is that proclamation follows immediately after,” Sotto told reporters on Viber.
He said he was reminded of when former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was proclaimed after the disputed 2004 elections after narrowly defeating the late actor Fernando Poe Jr., for whom Sotto served as campaign manager.
“Yes. Check the previous procs. I remember June 6, 2004. Gloria was proclaimed just before dawn. I will never forget because i voted against then walked out!” Sotto recalled.
