Jinggoy ‘not keen’ on fuel tax suspension but wants subsidies for PUV drivers, farmers

Senator-elect Jinggoy Estrada on Thursday said he was not keen on proposals to suspend the excise tax on fuel amid the escalating oil prices.

But he said he fully supports additional assistance to those most hit by the fuel price hikes.

“Mainit ang panawagan sa pagsuspinde ng excise tax sa fuel,” he said.

“While I am not keen on supporting the suspension as it may benefit only a few members of the society and will not be felt by majority of Filipinos, I fully support the proposal to grant urgent financial assistance to those heavily affected, especially our public utility drivers and farmers,” Estrada said.

According to him, “mahalaga na siguraduhin at tiyakin na ang mga nakararaming mahihirap na Pilipino ang makikinabang sa anumang hakbang na gagawin ng pamahalaan patungkol sa patuloy na pagsirit ng presyo ng langis.”

“Hinihimok niya ang pamahalaan na madaliin ang pamamahagi ng ayuda sa mga pinaka-apektadong sektor, gaya ng mga pampublikong tsuper at mga magsasaka,” his office said in a statement.
