Former Commission on Elections (Comelec) commissioner Rowena Guanzon on Saturday met incoming Ilocos Norte Rep. Sandro Marcos.

The chance encounter happened during the meeting of party-list lawmakers who have expressed support for the speakership of reelected Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez in Makati City.

Sandro, son of presumptive president Ferdinand Marcos Jr., approached Guanzon’s table and shook the hand of the former Comelec official, a known critic of the Marcoses.

Before her retirement, Guanzon said Marcos Jr. should be disqualified to run for president.

In an interview, Guanzon said she was invited as a guest by the Party-list Coalition to attend the lunch meeting.

Asked about her interaction with Marcos, Guanzon said “we are all well-educated people, we come from very good families.”

“We should have the interest of the country and the nation… above all,” Guanzon added.
