Former President and returning congresswoman Gloria Macapagal Arroyo seemed to be unbothered by the looming speakership tug of war with Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez for the 19th Congress.
A photo posted on Facebook Friday (May 13) showed Arroyo in the company of friends at the retirement party of outgoing Supreme Court Associate Justice Estela Perlas-Bernabe.
Arroyo’s attendance at the party happened on the same day that lawmakers visited Romualdez at his Makati residence to show support for his speakership.
Among the lawmakers who met with Romualdez, the first cousin of incoming president Ferdinand Marcos Jr., were Isabela Reps. Antonio Albano III and Faustino Dy V, and Quezon Rep. David Suarez.
On Saturday (May 14), lawmakers from the party-list coalition are set to meet at Rockwell to discuss, among others, the speakership.
The National Unity Party has endorsed Romualdez for Speaker even if he leads another party, Lakas-CMD.
