No more speakership battle.
After dutifully serving as Majority Leader, Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez will finally be leading the House of Representatives.
Romualdez has officially received an endorsement from his cousin presumptive President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to become the Speaker of the 19th Congress. The House leader, currently the chair of Lakas-CMD party, is a cousin of Marocs.
Politiko first reported Marcos’ inclination to support Romualdez as next Speaker instead of incoming Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. More allies are also reportedly supportive of Romualdez to lead the next Congress.
A video of Marcos endorsing Romualdez’ speakership bid has been circulating online.
“Of course how can I talk about this without talking about ang ginawa ng tulong ng Lakas, at syempre headed ng ating majority floor leader, Congressman Martin, who looks to be set to be the next speaker,” Marcos said.
Marcos’ announcement drew applause from family and allies gathered at the dinner party. Among those seen celebrating Romualdez’ imminent promotion are his wife Tingog party-list Rep Yedda Marie Romualdez, and Marcos’ spouse, Atty Liza Araneta.
